Pakistan is a young country with ancient history and rich cultural heritage. It has been a melting pot for races and religions from the pre-historic times and home to some of the oldest civilizations like Mehrgarh in Balochistan, Indus Valley Civilization in Sindh and the Punjab (Potohar) and Gandhara Civilization in Pakhtunkhwa. It has been the centre of mighty empires and birthplace of religions. It has strong traditions of social harmony and religious toleration, strengthened by the Sufis. Their spires and domes make an interesting blend with the rising minarets of the mosques on the skyline, representing the religious harmony within the society itself.
