As we all know, the Mineral and Coal Mining Law was officially signed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia on January 12, 2009, and was issued as Law No. 4 of 2009, to replace Law No.11 of 1967 regarding the Basic Provisions on Mining. Law No 11 of 1967 had been used as a reference for investments in mineral and coal mining activities for over 42 years. The eConomic crises that hit Indonesia in 1998 and the reform movement it inspired combined to drive a fundamental change in Indonesia's state administration system from a centralized towards a decentralized system. As a result, all regulations related to natural resources management needed to be amended, including Law No. 11/1967 which has recently been replaced by the Mineral and Coal Mining Law.
