Energy taxation and economic growth

This study attempts to navigate a path through the thicket of often conflicting advice and questions the prevailing orthodoxy on matters relating to the environment, energy subsidies, taxation and the nee d to privatize energy industries. Without denying the fundamental virtues of structural adjustment programs in helping developing countries pave the way for sustainable economic growth, the study suggests that greater flexibility may be required in the way in which such programs are implemented.
