Indonesia : managing growth with prudence

The purpose of this publication is to provide readers with recent primary information about the economy of the Republic of Indonesia. It contains important data highlighting the country's remarkable past economic achievements, specifically during the previous Five-Year Development Plan period (1989/ 90-1993/94).rnThe overall outlook of the economy continues to be excellent. The Indonesian Government, thus, stands on solid ground for urging both the domestic and foreign business communities to take full advantage of the healthy national economic conditions and prospects. It is worth noting that between January and May this year the government already gave its approval to 144 new foreign investment plans (excluding those in oil and the financial sector) worth US$ 5.1 billion. The latest approvals raise the cumulative value of foreign investments approved since 1967 to US$ 74.9 billion and the number of projects to 2.879.
