The world oil market current conditions & immediate prospects report to the 85th meeting of the economic commision board

Global economic growth is expected to accelerate this year. The relatively favourable conditions in industrialised countries, a persistent high growth in the Pacific Rim countries and the marked improvements in the Former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe should result in a world economic growth of 3.5% in 1996, compared to a rate of 3% in 1995. The OECD countries are expected to display an average growth rate of 2.0% in 1996, which is similar to the rate achieved in 1995. The sluggish growth in the main European economies has turned out to be more pronounced than initially expected, leading to downward revisions in many forecasts.
