It is now almost twenty years since the Chinese government undertook its first economic reforms and embarked on a path that was to lead to an increasingly strong commitment to the establishment of a market-oriented economy. The Chinese Economy Under Deng Xiaoping offers an overview of the economic achievements of those post-1978 reforms.
