Reclosers have a proven record of protecting overhead lines by differentiating between trans ient and permanent faults and so minimising, unnecessary consumer disconnections. The deve lopment of an SF6! recloser range has further enhanced the cost effectiveness of recloser applications by eliminating interrupter ma intenance during the norma l1ife of the recloser. The control and protection unit for the recloser is extremely flexible giving the end user the opportunity to choose protection settings to suit the individual system and location. Furthermore, the protection is insensitive to a Wide variation in temperature and can detect earth faults as low as 2 A with standard current transformers fitted. The detection of such earth faults being extreme ly important with low fault rated systems particular ly where the earth return impedance is high.
