Suspi Migas IX/1989 International Energy Seminar : Energy Pricing Policy in Indonesia 26 June-8 July 1989
Indonesia is rich in energy resources including oil, natural gas, coal, geothermal heat and water for hydro-electric generation. All of these resources are utilized to support the national economy. Industry, transport, various service sectors and other Dortions of the economy rely upon these energy resources for their operations. For Indonesia, oil represents a highly valuable natural resource. Oil and natural gas have for many years comprised Indonesia's largest export commodity. On the one hand oil and gas bring in foreign exchange needed for public imports and financial capital, while on the other hand taxes on oil and gas comprise a key source of revenues for national development budgets. Although since 1983 the government has tried to reduce gas and oil revenue dependence, the contribution from this sector remains of utmost importance.
