Global Oil Demand : Outlook and Uncertainties - Fourth Joint OPEC-IEA Workshop

This workshop, which considered the outlook and uncertainties for world oil demand over the coming years, included sessions on the challenges in assessing global oil demand prospects, the evolving oil consumption patterns and structures in key oil demand growth regions, and the impact of energy and environmental policies on oil demand. Presentations were made by OPEC and IEA Secretariats and representatives from OPEC and IEA member countries as well as international experts. The workshop concluded with a fruitful panel discussion highlighting uncertainties and their implications on the global demand outlook. The workshop identified the sources of uncertainties and extensively discussed the drivers behind the growth of future oil demand including economic growth, the relative energy prices, the impact of new technologies and the evolution of government policies.
