Vietnam 2010 : ASEAN defence-military meetings strategic cooperation for peace : stability and development in the region
ASEAN, founded in 1967, is a regional organization in Southeast Asia consisting of 10 member states. It gained independence in 1984 and has since expanded its membership to include Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia. ASEAN has become an active organization, responding effectively to global and regional changes. The ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting (ADMM) was established in 2006 to strengthen coordination and cooperation among member states, promote confidence building, and broaden cooperation with ASEAN partners. The ADMM+, held in Hanoi in 2010, marked a historic milestone in ASEAN's history, involving defense ministers from 10 ASEAN member states and their counterparts from eight dialogue partner countries. This event promotes defence dialogues and security cooperation between ASEAN and its key dialogue partners, fostering cooperation in dealing with both traditional and non-traditional security challenges. The Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence published the Proceedings of ASEAN Defence-Military Meetings in 2010 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Vietnam's ASEAN membership (1995-2010) and its ASEAN Chairmanship.
