Indonesia country profile on drugs 2003 : drug problem situation and national drugs control strategies
Drug abuse and illicit trafficking in Indonesia in the last two decades have been highly increasing as indicated by number of drug abusers undergoing treatment and rehabilitation; drug cases, suspects and drugs seized by the Police significantly, and so fast spreading to all over the country, that no single drug free sub district and high school. It is indeed worrying since it poses serious threat not only to the future and the lives of the abusers themselves, but also put unbearable economic, psychological, and social burden to their families and society. It ruins human potentials, humanity, morality and even civilization. It absorbs vast amount of resources of the nation, which could otherwise be spent for human development, betterment, and advancement to realize the aspired human well-being and prosperity for all. It is indeed a great impediment to the pursuance of world peace, order, freedom, democracy, and human rights.
