The Chinese People's Liberation Army
The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) was established on August 1, 1927, evolving through different phases of China's revolutionary history. Initially called the Chinese Red Army of Workers and Farmers during the Agrarian Revolutionary War, it played a significant role in resisting foreign invasion and domestic challenges. During the War of Resistance against Japan, the PLA was known as the Eighth Route Army and the New Fourth Army. It became the PLA during the National Liberation War, maintaining this name after the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC). Throughout its existence, the PLA has been a key force in shaping China's military and political landscape.
