UK/Indonesia Energy Seminar (Paper 19) : Environmental Impact on Rotating Electrical Machine Design
Environmental conditions for rotating machines operating in the oil and Gas Industry can be among the most severe in the world. Machines are designed for extreme ambient temperature conditions, sand storms, high humidity and potentially explosive atmospheres. Machine enclosure degrees of protection and enclosure testing are described, and types of protect ion for potentially explosive atmospheres are reviewed with reference to recent safety alerts. An aspect of A.C. variable speed drives for use in potentially explosive atmospheres is discussed.
