Energy policies in Asia : a comparative study

This book originated as an United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP) activity which was contracted to the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Bangkok, Thailand. This study charts various Asian countries adjustments to the various stresses created by the violent oil price changes; and tries to help promote regional understanding and cooperation in energy matters.

This volume comprises a Comparative Analysis chapter and 12 individual country energy policy profiles, all similarly structured to facilitate comparisons. The profiles examine each country’s structural changes, their changing patterns of oil substitution, the development of local energy resources, and public investment. This examination is made at both the policy and implementation level. The impact of second oil price hike is also examined.
More than 40 experts helped develop and write this work, inclusive of project and in-country advisors. Both national and international data, including some from the United Nations and the International Monetary Fund, have been used in the research.

Each chapter is clearly structured and written, extensively documented and profusely illustrated with tables, figures and charts.
