Energy and American agriculture

There is scarcely an issue facing the nation-or, indeed, the world-that is more critical than those surrounding the acquisition and use of energy resources. Although agricultural production accounts for only about 3 per cent of American energy consumption, rising costs and increasing scarcity are causing a reassessment of the use of energy in food and fiber production. This booklet puts agricultural energy consumption in perspective and discusses possible alternative sources, including conservation.
