"This edition is an adapted translation of a book written in French by A. Dumort and B. Lapillonne and published by the Commission of European Communities under the title MEDEE- SUD, modèle de demande en energie pour les pays du sud.
This English version is made available for wider distribution to all participating countries of the Regional Energy development programme (REDP) after the MEDEE-S programme has been successfully applied in country teams of five countries implementing sectoral energy demand studies within the framework of REDP phase III (1987-1989) activity P-1.1. Implementing of this activity has been a collaborative endeavour, of the Government of China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, the Republic of Korea and Thailand, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of France. Through implementation of activity P-1.1, long-term energy demand projections using the model have been prepared by the Energy Research Institute of the State Planning Commission for China, the Planning Commission for India, the permanent Committee for Energy Studies (TKT) at the Oil and Gas Technology Development Center (LEMIGAS) for Indonesia, the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) of the Prime Minister's Department for Malaysia, and the National Energy Administration (NEA) for Thailand."
