Bridging the gap : financing gender equality

In 2008, key events leading up to the Follow-up International Conference on Financing for Development in Doha included the 52nd Session of the Commission on the Status of Women, focusing on Financing Gender Equality. Experts emphasized the importance of gender equality for development outcomes, as reflected in the Agreed Conclusions of the Commission. Sessions on economic literacy organized by UNIFEM and UN-NGLS explored the relationship between gender equality and macroeconomic policies, addressing topics such as fiscal policy analysis and budget engagement. Participants praised the capacity building and advocacy efforts, urging for further information dissemination. This commitment to increasing financing for gender equality and shaping policy progress has inspired this publication for advocates at the Conference and in national development planning.
