The 1995 energy situation in Mexico
The National Development Plan set a goal of 5 percent annual economic growth for 1995-2000. This figure might be realistic, according to independent forecasters, especially since Mexico has already started to reimburse a large part of its debts, mainly to the United States. The major concern is the fragile health of the country's banking system. As far as the energy sector is concerned, electric power and natural gas distribution projects appear to provide the greatest opportunity for foreign investments.
