Stormont : the house on the hill
Since its opening in 1932, the Houses of Parliament have been the heart of Northern Ireland's political, social and cultural life. Since then, there has been a decline in the textile and shipping industries, the Second World War and the Belfast bombing of Blitz, rapid social and environmental changes and, of course, 'Problems'. Currently in Stormont, protests and debates are taking place comfortably along with Pavarotti and Elton John concerts, World Rally Championships, and Chinese New Year celebrations. Assembly Executives and Members of Parliament, supported by the House Committee and Secretaries, make full use of the House of Commons to help all people in Northern Ireland work toward a shared vision of the future – peaceful, inclusive, good and fair. 'The Stormont: The House on the Hill' takes readers around the Houses of Parliament and their courtyards, and is dedicated to all who face difficult times to enjoy the first decade of the millennium, the new year in which hopes for peace arise. The truth.
