Martial law : communism's last stand
Martial Law struck a blow at all the values which had united society, and made fragmentation and fear its ethos. Following the successful pacification of society, the Communist government put all its efforts into drawing as many Poles as possible onto its side. Even now, those who were 'for' at the time, will not admit that, following 13th December 1981, everything possible was done to put Poland under the yoke of that system. And that is why it is so difficult to find a clear picture of that 'internal occupation'.
